CoLABOR study analyzes qualification (dis)adjustments in the Portuguese labor market

CoLABOR's new study, entitled "(Dis)adjustments in Qualifications in Portugal: Evolution, Incidences and the Importance of the Starting Point", by researchers Frederico Cantante and Pedro Estêvão, concludes that under-qualification in the Portuguese labor market over the last two decades has lost expression and that the adjustment of qualifications has become modal.

Against the backdrop of an increase in the level of education of the employed population, the Portuguese economy has, in part, managed to recover and create jobs suited to the more qualified profile of the available workforce. On the other hand, the increase in overqualification, particularly among women, young people and in some sectors of activity, shows that many qualified human resources may be going untapped. This may also be leading to the exclusion of the least qualified from the labor market.
